One reason why I’ve wanted to improve my life so badly but haven’t done it yet, is that instead of doing the first thing, I protest it.
Yep I’m a protester.
I’m not happy to admit it, but don’t we all sometimes find it easier to complain and resist than taking the first step?
Whenever I do take the first step, I’m usually surprised.
Surprised by the fact it was easier than I thought.
Surprised that a little progress does make a difference.
And also surprised that taking the first step is often a new challenge every day.
But how do we get started?
Just because I took a step yesterday and accomplished something, doesn’t mean I can decide that protesting and stopping the effort is ok today.
This seems to be a constant battle for me.
I achieve some goals, make a little progress . . .
and the next day feel so accomplished that I allow myself to take a break and go back to being satisfied with where I’m at.
Why not, since I did so well yesterday?
But that’s the lie. That I deserve to do nothing today.
I deserve to keep going!
I deserve to get ahead!
To find healing!
That only happens by keeping on moving forward!
Getting up and going, getting up and going, and getting back up and going again.
There are things that I’m wanting to take the first step on. Things that I need to do regularly.
I am hoping by sharing that I’m an avoider, that it will help me recognize my running or “kicking and screaming” when it starts.
If we really want to accomplish something, and keep at it, we need to face it head on and keep taking that first step EVERY day til it becomes easier.
I think in the beginning there is some pain involved, but remember we are already feeling that pain in some form.
Also remember that same pain will only grow over time if we don’t act.
If we do act, the pain should be minimized.
So let’s get up and get going . . . AGAIN!
Tell me in the comments if you are going to join me in getting started again every day!
